The accountability gap is a massive problem. It starts at the student level with discipline—let it slip, and it affects everyone. Poor student behavior isn’t just frustrating; it directly impacts teacher morale and student outcomes (Buckman & Pittman, 2021).
It doesn’t stop there. School leaders fail to hold teachers accountable for executing lessons using high-quality instructional materials, which has the potential to close significant gaps in student learning. But districts too often ignore this, leaving teachers floundering with weak support and no clear direction.
Families are not off the hook here. Absenteeism (click on this link if you like maps) and extreme discipline challenges have never been more felt.
The accountability gap is real. It's systemic. And it’s time to stop pretending it’s not there. We have to solve this. Our kids and our future depend on it. We are the system—and it’s time to hold ourselves accountable.

Is empathy the missing piece in the puzzle of accountability?
At first glance, empathy and accountability may seem like opposing principles or a zero-sum game.
