Engagement sounds good, doesn’t it? It implies students are actively involved, that the classroom is alive with learning. But if we look closely, engaged is a word we should avoid when analyzing a classroom. It’s easy to mistake presence for learning and activity for impact. Being present isn’t enough, and engaged doesn’t cut it.
